257 - Ordinary to Extraordinary: Unraveling the Secrets of Living an Extraordinary Life Part 1

Read

Have you ever seen that person know what they want in life and take the bull by the horns and think, “I wish…”

What makes up an extraordinary life? Money, success or meaning?

What is your definition of an extraordinary life? Are you living it?

Today, we’re starting a new series to discover how to create an extraordinary life. God is calling us to this life, but are you living it? Do you want to have it if you don’t?

Today is for you if…

  • If you’re tired of living a life below your potential.

  • If you desire to live life to the fullest,…full of joy, fulfillment and meaning.

  • If you’re ready to shed whatever is holding you back, step into your extraordinary life.

I love watching the Olympics. It’s full of people who’ve spent their whole life pursuing a dream.

One of my favorite movies is Miracle. It’s about Herb Brooks, a college hockey coach who took the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team from a bunch of rivals to become the first US team in 12 years to beat the Soviet team.

That miracle moment was one of sports’ top moments in the 20th century.

The miracle on ice was only a moment. But what about life? We want life to be more than a moment; we want a life full of the extraordinary.

But have you ever stopped to define what an extraordinary life means to you?

An extraordinary life is a life that’s a life experience on your terms…not someone else’s.

1. Define Your Extraordinary Life

You can get somewhere if you haven’t defined where you’re going.

If I want to go on vacation, I must first define my destination. Then I can figure out the other details like travel, cost, timing, etc.

Here are four questions to help you define your extraordinary life:

  1. What does an extraordinary life look like to you?

  2. What would it look like at the next level? So, it’s not the end game but just another level up from where you’re at.

  3. Where would you live emotionally?

  4. What would fulfill you?

I believe an extraordinary life is not just about achievement; it’s a beautiful life full of meaning, growth, love and contribution.

Also, I believe we experience our extraordinary life in stages. It’s not all or nothing. As we grow, we’ll experience more and more of this beautiful life.

2. Uncover Why You’re Not Experiencing Your Extraordinary Life Yet

What’s prevented you from creating your extraordinary life in the past? What’s gotten in your way?

What’s getting in your way right now?

Suppose you said other people, circumstances or anything outside yourself. In that case, please take a moment and uncover what is going on in you that’s preventing you from living your extraordinary life.

We can’t change anything until we take 100% responsibility for what’s in our control. And that’s ourselves.

A bad circumstance may have knocked you down, but you’re responsible if you get back up again.

For years, I thought my lack of success and opportunities was because people didn’t pick me and didn’t see my gifts. In reality, I was too afraid to take risks.

I still have areas holding me back from my extraordinary life. One is not asking for help, and another is not taking advantage of collaborating.

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. -African Proverb

3. Change What You Can Change to Make Your Extraordinary Life Happen

You can’t change others, but you can change yourself.

You can be willing to do what’s necessary to make your extraordinary life happen…and it starts with changing you. I talked in episode #256 about whether you are willing to do what’s necessary to make your dreams come true. If you missed it, check it out.

What do you need to change now to make life happen on your terms?

What shifts do you need to make?

Returning to why I’m not fully living my extraordinary life, I must change how I work. I am looking at areas where I can collaborate more.

I just returned from West Palm Beach with my mentor and business coach, Lethia Owens. We’re collaborating on a version of how to create your signature system as a bonus for a course she’s selling. It can potentially connect me with new clients I couldn’t otherwise reach.

The other change I’m making is asking for help more. Instead of trying to spend tons of time on a project that I’m stuck on… I’m asking for help sooner.

Homework:

1. Define your extraordinary life.

Here are a few questions to prompt your imagination:

  • What does an extraordinary life look like to you?

  • What would it look like at the next level? So, it’s not the end game but just another level up from where you’re at.

  • Where would you live emotionally?

  • What would fulfill you?

2. What’s prevented you from creating your extraordinary life in the past?

  • What’s gotten in your way?

  • What’s getting in your way right now?

3. What do you need to change now to make life happen on your terms?

  • What shifts do you need to make?

In the next episode, we’ll delve into what can hinder you from going to the next level in your extraordinary life and how to change that.

As you work through these questions, you’re becoming aware of how to experience an extraordinary life instead of only getting to experience it at the whim of your circumstances.
