Podcast Episode 253 - Where is Your Emotional Home

Read

Do you ever have something amazing happen, and you feel euphoric and then days later or even moments later, all of a sudden, you're feeling negative emotions again?

Do you ever notice there's one emotion that you kind of gravitate towards? Usually, it's a negative one.

Do you ever want to feel better, more alive, and you want to experience more positive emotions on a regular basis? Is that you?

Did you know your emotions have an emotional home? It’s the place you continually go back to, not matter what positive or negative thing happens in your life. We want to make sure our emotional home is empowering us instead of disempowering us.

Today is for you if…

  • If you have ever felt overrun by your emotions.

  • If you've noticed that you spend more time in your negative emotions than you do in the positive ones.

  • If you are tired of living where you're at, and you're ready to go to the next level.

In this episode, I discuss the concept of our emotional homes, which are the emotions we often gravitate towards and feel comfortable in. I describe disempowering emotions, which can be negative and often home us back from fully living our lives and empowering emotions, which inspire us and encourage us to pursue our dreams. I encourage you to identify your emotional homes and work towards cultivating more empowering emotions in your everyday lives.

**Key Points:**

  1. Everyone, knowingly or unknowingly, has an emotional home, a place of comfort and familiarity where they retreat to during stress or crisis.

  2. The emotions we often revert to can either be empowering positive emotions that push us forward or disempowering negative emotions that hold us back.

  3. Identifying these disempowering emotions as part of our emotional homes can help us make changes to find more happiness in our lives.

  4. Shifting from disempowering to empowering emotional homes could influence the manner we perceive and handle situations, positively impacting our overall life experience.

Homework

  1. I want you to list out as many positive empowering emotions you can think of that you experience at least once a week, if not more. Set a timer for 3 to 5 minutes when you do this so you don’t overthink it.

  2. Then reset your timer and think of as many negative, disempowering emotions you experience once a week or more.

  3. Next, circle the top two empowering emotions and the top two disempowering emotions. The ones that show up most often.

    1. Those top emotions are your emotional home, your safe place. But we want to change those disempowering ones so they don’t keep sabotaging our happiness and progress.

  4. Now, think of one or two new emotions that if you live in those every day, if these become your new emotional home, it would change your life.

    1. These are the emotions that would take you to the next level.

  5. Finally, write how will it change your life if these emotions were your emotional home.

You’ve got this, and Father’s got you!
