When you think about your dreams, are you living them out?

Are you taking steps to get there, or are you stuck?

For years I said, someday I’ll do this…but someday never comes.

Something was blocking me from fulfilling my dream–fear.

Over the years, I discovered tools that have helped me get unblocked and move again. One of them is the 10-10-10 framework.

Suzy Welch, in her book 10-10-10: A Life-Transforming Idea, developed a decision-making framework to clarify the process and uncover our unconscious agendas, fears, needs and desires. It’s a way to identify and live your deepest goals and values.

  • 10 Minutes

  • 10 Months

  • 10 Years

Life is a series of choices. All dreams start with a decision, a choice. 

Every choice you make and execute closes the gap between your dreams and reality one more increment.

  • Do I pick up the phone and ask for the sale? 

  • Do I register for that course, program or class or wait for the time to be just right?

  • Do I go to the networking event or skip it this time?

  • Do I sit down right now and write that blog post, a page of my book or a podcast?

  • Do I ask that person to be my mentor or hire that coach?

How can you use this decision-making framework to close the gap between your dreams and reality?

Think about what step you need to take toward your dreams.

Run it through the 10-10-10 framework.

  • How will I feel about this in 10 minutes?

  • How will I feel about this in 10 months?

  • How will I feel about this in 10 years?

Example:

For instance, when I was enrolling, emailing and texting prospects to have a conversation with me about a pilot course I created for coaches, authors and speakers to create their signature system.

How will I feel about this in 10 minutes?

Probably scared or nervous because I didn’t know what to expect.

That’s 10 minutes of anxious waiting and wondering.

How will I feel about this in 10 months?

Whether it went well or not, that conversation or situation is most likely a distant memory, but maybe you learned something you could use for the future.

I remember the feeling, but I feel proud of myself for conquering my fear and doing it anyway.

How will I feel about this in 10 years?

You probably don’t remember sending the email or having that conversation. So I might as well do that scary thing.

Some decisions have 10-year ramifications, such as quitting your job, getting married or divorced or having kids. But emailing someone if they’re interested in joining my program isn’t one of them.

Homework:

Now it’s your turn!

  1. Pick one thing you will do to move you toward your dreams. 

  2. Walk yourself through the 10-10-10 framework and write down your answers.

  3. Take the action step to move you toward your dreams.

10-10-10 Framework:

  • How will I feel about this in 10 minutes?

  • How will I feel about this in 10 months?

  • How will I feel about this in 10 years?

Keep the 10-10-10 framework in mind as you work your way through walking out your dreams. Send emails, make phone calls, attend the networking event, and start the course or program.

Now go do that scary thing that’s blocking you from your dreams!
