Podcast Episode 148 - Quick Pick Me Ups When the Going Gets Tough pt 3 - Know Who You Are

Read

Do you struggle with believing in yourself?

Do you beat yourself up when you make a mistake or miss a deadline?

Do you doubt you have a calling or question you can fulfill it?

It’s part 3 of Quick Pick Me Ups When the Going Gets Tough. When we’re reaching for our dreams, and it challenges, what do you do when the obstacle to fulfilling your dreams is yourself?

So today is for you if…

  • If you’re tired of beating yourself down.

  • If you desire to let go of what’s holding you back from purpose.

  • If you’re ready to believe in yourself and the gifts, God gave you.

You need to know who you are in the middle of a struggle. That will pick you up and help you keep going in the tough situation.

When I started my journey to fulfill my dreams and fulfill my God-given purpose and hit a challenge, I would say things to myself like…

  • I’m not enough

  • I’m not like so and so

  • I’m not the right personality

  • Yah da, yah da, yah da

I was getting in my own dang way and got stuck right there at that moment.

But that’s not what God says about me. That’s not really who I am.

If God has called you to fulfill your dreams (and He has), you need to see yourself as He sees you.

Some people say, “Fake it till you make it.”

God says, “Faith it till you make it.”

Hebrews 11:1 NKJV

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

We must shift the way we see ourselves (our identity). in order to pick ourselves up and keep moving forward in the tough times.

Instead of saying, “I can’t, I’m not, I’m….”

Say, “I’m the kind of person who….”

You could say things like:

  • I’m the kind of person who finishes what I start.

  • I’m the kind of person who does what I say

  • I’m the kind of person who tracks my progress

  • I’m the kind of person who stays accountable.

  • I’m the kind of person who chooses to take the scary steps.

  • I’m the kind of person who generates courage by doing it afraid.

  • I’m the kind of person who stops hiding and shows up fully myself.

  • I’m the kind of person who fulfills my God-given purpose.

Today, I want you to take some time and think through what you say about yourself when the challenges come. It gets tough when you’re trying to fulfill your dreams.

  1. What do you say to yourself about yourself? Write that down.

  2. Now, create a new statement that says, “I’m the kind of person who….” And then fill in the blank.

  3. When you want to say a negative comment to yourself, shift your identity and say, “I’m the kind of person who….”

It will help pick you up when the going gets tough.

Now, if you’re someone with a dream in your heart and you’re on the journey, but you’re stuck; if fear is holding you back from moving forward again, then maybe the Courageous Club is for you.
