Podcast Episode 122 - What can the Grinch Who Stole Christmas teach you about your relationships

Do you hate Christmas, and you don’t know quite the reason?

Or do you obsess about the Christmas season going overboard, over budget and over-stressed?

Or maybe you go with the flow to avoid the Christmas conflict?

Today we’re continuing our Christmas movie series and talking about what the Grinch Who Stole Christmas can teach us about our relationships.

So, I’m talking to you today if:

  • If you’re ready to discover the true joy of Christmas…and life.

  • If you’re ready to let go of the stress and strains of the Christmas seasons…and life.

  • If you want to enjoy life for yourself.

Today is all about relationships. So we’re going to be pulling out the Grinch.

Surprisingly Dr. Suess based the Grinch character on himself. It was the day after Christmas, and as he looked at himself in the mirror, he noticed he had a grinch face. You know, sour, cranky and unhappy. He realized he’d lost the spirit of Christmas and decided to get it back. That was the inspiration for The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

I want to show you how each of these four characters journeyed to discover the true meaning of Christmas and life…relationships.

Christmas and life are all about relationships–our relationship with God, family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc.

Rich relationships make for a rich life.

1. Grinch

He’s a mean one that, Mr. Grinch.

We discover the Grinch hated Christmas, not because of Christmas itself, but because he’d been hurt as a young child. He lost connection with others and then hid himself to keep himself safe.

How about you?

Have you put up a wall to keep yourself safe?

To have connections, you must first work through the hurt.

Then it’s time to show yourself friendly. Be the first to reach out.

2. Who’s

The Who’s liked Christmas a lot…but they lost the meaning of Christmas.

They were busy with competitions, shopping, eating and all the trappings of commercialism.

They lost the meaning of what really matters–relationships.

Genuine relationships get vulnerable and deep.

When you’re the first to be open and vulnerable, you create a safe space for others to do the same.

Now you can go deep into relationships and enjoy what matters.

3. Max the dog

I love Max. He’s Grinch’s loyal companion. Always ready and willing to help.

But Max is a doormat. Grinch runs him over and abuses their relationship.

Are you, like me, afraid of conflict? Do you just go with the flow to keep the peace?

That’s no way to live…under someone’s feet.

We need to set boundaries to tell people how they are allowed to treat us.

4. Cindy Lou Who

Cindy lost her love of Christmas and didn’t know why. She was searching for her first love.

What I love about Cindy is when she started searching, she discovered the potential in others, including the Grinch.

Cindy helped Grinch see what he could be instead of what he was in the moment.

And through all that, she saved Christmas and helped each person develop deeper relationships.

So who are you, and what do you need to do to grow deeper in your relationship and discover the true meaning of Christmas and life?
