Podcast Episode 181 - The Big Key To Getting What You Want In Life

Read

Do you have a dream in your heart, but it feels like you're moving through molasses to get there?

Ever wished you were more disciplined to do it?

Or do you look around you and think, "everyone is so much further along in life than me?"

We're discussing the key to getting more of what you want in life.

Today is for you if…

  • If you're tired of looking at everyone else's progress or wins and wish you had some of your own.

  • If you desire, become more disciplined to do what you know you need to do.

  • If you're ready for the secret to achieving your goals and fulfilling your dreams.

I have a dream to help women overcome fear and fulfill their purpose. Somedays, it feels like it's a million miles away. I feel like I'm slow at everything. I look at others, and if I'm not careful, I'll get into comparison mode, thinking everyone is much ahead of me.

It reminds me of a story…

The Hare & the Tortoise

A Hare was making fun of the Tortoise one day for being so slow.

”Do you ever get anywhere?” he asked with a mocking laugh.

”Yes,” replied the Tortoise, “and I get there sooner than you think. I’ll run you a race and prove it.”

The Hare was much amused at the idea of running a race with the Tortoise, but for the fun of the thing he agreed. So the Fox, who had consented to act as judge, marked the distance and started the runners off.

The Hare was soon far out of sight, and to make the Tortoise feel very deeply how ridiculous it was for him to try a race with a Hare, he lay down beside the course to take a nap until the Tortoise should catch up.

The Tortoise meanwhile kept going slowly but steadily, and, after a time, passed the place where the Hare was sleeping. But the Hare slept on very peacefully; and when at last he did wake up, the Tortoise was near the goal. The Hare now ran his swiftest, but he could not overtake the Tortoise in time.

The race is not always to the swift.

When I feel like my progress is so s.l.o.w., I remind myself the tortoise wins the race.

So did Paul…

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NASB

24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. So they do it to obtain a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 Therefore I run in such a way as not to run aimlessly; I box in such a way, as to avoid hitting air; 27 but I strictly discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

Paul lived his life in a way to fulfill his God-given calling.

What's the key?

Every person I've seen fulfilling their purpose has this in common…consistency.

Consistency is the key to unlocking what we want in life.

Here are five steps to creating more consistency in your life.

1. Where are you consistent now?

  • Are you consistent at being inconsistent?

  • Are you consistent with scrolling social media?

We say we're not disciplined, but we're really just consistent at the wrong thing most of the time.

Knowing this also shifts your mindset from I'm not consistent to I need to be consistent at the right thing.

2. Where do you need to be consistent?

List where you need to be consistent in your life.

• Physically?

• Emotionally?

• Mentally?

• Spiritually?

• Family?

• Career/Business?

3. Pick one thing

Pick one thing to get consistent at to start.

You'll get overwhelmed and quit if you try to do everything at once.

Add on as you get consistent with that one thing.

4. Do something

Do something towards that one thing every day.

"We can't do everything at once, but by God, we can do something at once!" – Andy Andrews, The Seven Decisions: Understanding the Keys to Personal Success

5. Schedule Consistency

Make room on your calendar for consistency.

You'll never do it if you don't plan on doing it.

Slow and steady win the race!!
