Podcast Episode 152 - How to jump off the anxiety rollercoaster part 2 - Using the ABCs of Anxiety

Read

Does anxiety ever hit you out of nowhere?

When you're trying new things, do you feel super anxious?

When you feel anxious, does it permeate your whole body, and you're unsure what to do?

When we're in overthinking mode, it can feel like a one-loop rollercoaster. And overthinking doesn't just stay in our heads…anxiety can get trapped in our bodies!

So today is for you if…

  • If you want to live, your dreams and anxiety are hindering you.

  • If you need tools to overcome the anxiety that hits your body.

  • If you're ready to jump off the rollercoaster of anxiety and stay off.

When I started fainting from fear, I noticed that my body would react too. My chest got tight, my face got hot, oh, and my ears felt like fire. Then I felt heat radiate my entire body, and down I went.

I fainted every month or two for the following year. I noticed that my body would trigger when I walked into certain rooms.

I began studying the mind-body connection and discovered the trauma I was experiencing could get trapped in my body. That's why I could walk into a room and be triggered even before my mind kicked in. It was like an alarm in my body went off saying, "something is wrong going in here!" Yikes!

I could work through this body trigger or alarm when I learned the ABCs of anxiety.

(These concepts come from Dr. Russell Kennedy's book Anxiety RX)

A – Awareness:

Become aware of being aware.

Ask yourself where the alarm in your body is.

  • Does your stomach or chest get tight?

  • Are your shoulders or neck tightening?

  • Do your legs hurt?

Where does the alarm show up? Listen to your body and name it!

B – Body:

Hold your hand on the place of alarm in your body.

Now…Breathe…breathe through the alarm.

And let the alarm melt away from your body.

This slows down your heart rate and relaxes your muscles.

It also gets you out of your head and grounds you in your body in the present moment.

C – Connection:

Connect with yourself and love yourself through the alarm.

Give yourself grace because God does too.

Now, let's go a step further with D & E.

D – Discipline:

Practice the ABCs consistently.

This will constantly keep you working through the alarm and releasing that anxiety out of your body.

E – Ego:

Our ego will try and keep us from being vulnerable and trying again.

I can't let the fear of fainting again keep me from what God's called me to do.

The same goes for you.

When you use the ABCs plus DEs, you can release that anxiety and jump off the anxiety rollercoaster.

One more thing…you may have trauma trapped in your body from childhood or beyond. This advice is not to replace the need for a counselor or therapist.

If you need help, please see a therapist or counselor, especially one that can help you with bodywork. This will allow you to not just deal with the stuff in your head but also help you release the trauma in your body.

You've got this, and Father's got you!

Thanks a Bunch for listening!
